One of the biggest hurdles I have as a high school music educator is that students come into my choruses with a wide range of formal music literacy training. I have to remediate a small portion of my students who are beginning music readers in order to get them to speak the same music language as students on the other end of the spectrum who have been taking piano lessons since they were five years old. In order to get all students speaking the same basic music language, I am attempting to create a series of 20 videos in which students can learn basic music literacy in 5 minute lessons for 20 days.
The goal is upload 20 videos to YouTube in which beginning music reading students will be able to spend the first five minutes of class being remediated while the more musically literate students can work with me on sight reading.
